Auctions of works by painters from the south of France
The Peintres du midi et de la Côte d'Azur department in Nice has naturally become a speciality of MILLON RIVIERA, focusing on the great painters and lesser-known masters who have all fallen in love with this region, to the point of making it their studio.
Southern France painters department:
Whether they were born in Nice, like Alexis Mossa or Emmanuel Costa, in Marseille, like Jean-Baptiste Olive, or whether they set down their paint boxes and easels near the maritime pines, the speciality of painters from the south presents a wealth of subjects, styles and influences, since it is not a movement in painting or a School, but a moment in the life of the greatest painters.
Auction calendar:
Twice a year, the MILLON RIVIERA auction house and its department headed by Julia Dragone offer a catalogued sale of over 200 selected lots. The Bay of Villefranche, the Promenade des Anglais, the Mercantour, Mont Sainte-Victoire, the Calanques, the hinterland, the villages of Provence.... The variety of subjects on offer makes these sales a refreshing departure from the beaten auction track. All media are invited: watercolours, drawings, oils, regional furniture, marquetry, etc.
L'atelier du midi is a showcase for the great painters of the late 19th century, such as Matisse, Cézanne and Van Gogh. It is also home to many painters from the 20th century to the present day. As a laboratory for modernity, the Midi has been and continues to be a place of constant renewal.
Here are a few results:
Emmanuel Costa, vue de Villefranche-sur-Mer, sold for €800.
Pierre Ambrogiani, lavender pickers, sold for €5,000.
Yves Brayer, la Montagne Sainte-Victoire, lithograph, sold for €450.
