The Archaeology department specialises in auctions of prehistoric, Roman, Greek and Mesopotamian artefacts. All the lots we are pleased to offer for sale are appraised by Daniel Lebeurrier and Blandine Villenaut.
For over 15 years, Millon has been shedding light on the great civilisations of the past.
From Prehistory (which was an innovation of the department) to Antiquity, the works presented bear witness to the periods of artistic and technical development in the early days of mankind. Whether works of art, everyday objects or luxury items, the lots presented by the Archaeology Auction Department have in common their age and their history.
In recent years, we have been privileged to be entrusted with prestigious private collections such as the L. Vesigne collection, the Greek art collection of Nicolas Koutoulakis, and the Claude Harel collection.
The Archaeology Department organises two annual auctions devoted to a selection of prehistoric, Egyptian, Mesopotamian, Greek and Roman works, most of which come from former French, Belgian or Swiss collections.
These sales take place in the salons of the Trocadéro, a prestigious address, and are published. Collectors and enthusiasts come together to discover a selection of the finest archaeological pieces.
Frescoes, mosaics, sculptures, glassware, terracotta and jewellery are all auctioned off, representing the founding civilisations of our past.
Regularly presenting museum-quality pieces, the department has enjoyed great success, often supported by public institutions, museums and major collectors.
The good results at auction reflect a lively market, where collectors, enthusiasts and public institutions continue to promote and preserve these works of art, which reflect ancient cultures. We recently sold a rare drapery of a statue representing Aphrodite Genitrix of the Naples type, from the G. Charbonneaux collection, for a record price of 416,000 euros.
Assisted by specialists and head of department Daniel Lebeurrier, the Archaeology Department sets out to discover rare and ancient objects .
Constantly on the lookout for objects and paintings, our experts like to satisfy a clientele of well-informed collectors. They can help you identify your objects and tell you what they are worth. A simple souvenir? A historical object? Many treasures are discovered every year.
Many fakes exist in the field of archaeology, which is why we offer you a free and confidential estimate. Our team is there for you, with no obligation on your part (link to estimate request).
